Yesterday, Snap held an encore release event for its new Specs AR glasses in Los Angeles. The device was first announced this summer, and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel used much of yesterday’s event to show what people will actually be able to do with the company’s AR glasses, which will cost $2195 when they go on sale this fall.
Being a repeat of sorts, the event was primarily meant to drum up additional excitement for the device, and presumably steal some of Meta’s thunder ahead of next week’s Meta Connect conference. Still, there were a few newsy tidbits, including one that may get little attention, but to me perfectly encapsulates both the potential and the challenges facing today’s AR technology.
