Walmart is getting ready to launch a new streaming stick that looks awfully familiar: The Onn Full HD Streaming Device, which passed through the FCC earlier this month, is a HDMI stick that appears to be virtually identical to the Google TV stick by the same name the company released in 2023, down to the model numbers.

The two biggest differences: While the prior version was made by Luxshare, this year’s iteration is being manufactured by Skyworth. Both companies are known for making streaming devices, including models running Google TV. Luxshare has long made Onn-branded streamers for Walmart.

The other change is that the new stick will be made in Mexico, while the 2023 model was made in Vietnam. So this may be more about Walmart diversifying its supply chain than about an actual hardware upgrade.

It’s also notable that Walmart appears to be sticking with Google TV for its budget streaming devices, despite the fact that it acquired Vizio in 2024. The retail giant seems to be content with turning Vizio into little more than a house brand for TVs, and not bridging Vizio’s operating system to new devices and form factors.
